Random bits of rantiness
I have had no time due to work and children to begin any articles yet, but I don't want to go too long without entries so..the good , the bad and the ugly of comics right now. (I can tell by the reaction on Boris' face, he's excited.)
The last month and a half (from late April to about mid-June) has too many blockbuster movies for most geek budgets...I mean Avengers, Deadpool 2, Solo and another Jurassic Park movie all so close together? Come on, how much money do these people think we have? (Although, even in a role where she keeps her clothes on all the time, still awesome to see Emilia Clarke.) Judging by how under-expectations the box office take for Solo was, can we expect that movies may actually start going down in box office take?
Speaking about money, after Amazing Spider-Man 800 and it's 57 cover variants, we are going to get yet another Amazing Spider-Man #1. And of course, after Action 1000, and a new Man of Steel, we are going to get yet another Superman 1. It seems to me it is getting harder and harder to keep track of continuity for the sake of selling more #1 issues to collectors (at least DC is limiting the reboots to Superman and various Justice League titles by the looks of it so far. I don't like rebooted titles very much.)
Montreal Comiccon is beginning to look a lot like Ottawa Comiccon; many of the same guests from this year's show are appearing in Montreal too, making it easier for those who felt burned by Mamoa's non-appearance at a Q&A panel to try again (you, know after paying for travel, another entry fee, etc.. Maybe I'm just feeling a little financial crunch after going to two shows in three weeks after my wife's birthday and Mother's Day, all in a three week span in May, and it's giving me a little sour grapes that I have to miss Mr. Meme himself, Chuck Norris.)
Anyway, to end on some positivism, I am happy to see that Bruce and Selina's wedding is going to happen, and that they didn't add too many extra books. I am even happier to see that the Batman title is continuing as Volume 3 (for now at least), as this is one title that people do not want to see numerous #1s for.
I am also happy that I have a stack of new (to me) comics to peruse from the aforementioned conventions. The life of a comic book treasure-hunter can be fulfilling indeed, and really, all my complaints round out to first world problems. At least I am not as batty as this girl...
So have a wonderful day, and if you feel the need, let us know what you don't like about the comic world right now in the comments. We are a community first and foremost. Cheers.
Ottawa News and Notes - This upcoming Sunday (June 11, 2018) has the monthly Capital Show at the Jim Durrell Arena. Hope to see you there.
